Royal Oak RD#2

This new record-breaking ultra-thin prototype pays homage to the company's first perpetual calendar wristwatch that came out in 1955.

Complications and ultra-thin models: two time-honoured Audemars Piguet specialties meet in the Royal Oak RD#2. It has taken five years to develop the new ultra-thin 5133 calibre with perpetual calendar. This is the latest chapter in Audemars Piguet’s quest for world firsts which goes back over a century.

The challenge has been to re-engineer a three-storey movement into a single level, making it ultra-thin while combining and re-arranging functions to boost ergonomy, efficiency and robustness. This patented system features a record-shattering 2.89 mm central rotor. At just 6.30 mm, the redesigned case shaves almost 2 mm off the Royal Oak Extra-Thin Jumbo, making the Royal Oak RD#2 the thinnest selfwinding perpetual calendar on the market today. Thinnest ever, but no compromise on quality: 40-hour power reserve, and same frequency (2.75 Hz / 19’800 vibrations per hour) as calibre 5134.

The 41mm 950 platinum case is waterresistant up to 20m and RD#2 is engraved on the sapphire caseback. A “Grande Tapisserie” pattern decorates the blue dial featuring blue counters white gold applied hour-markers and Royal Oak hands with luminescent coating. This watch has the following functions : perpetual calendar with day and date, astronomical moon, month, leap year, night and day, hours and minutes. Finally, a strap matching the case gives the watch an additionnal metallic touch.
