J12 Rétrograde Mystérieuse

Mysterious curves.

GMT- Printemps-Eté 2010Red.Chanel_328080_0Chanel has successfully taken up the challenge of celebrating the first decade of its famous J12 by developing a perfectly round watch with no crown along its side and driven by an incredibly ingenious movement. Born from the Parisianbased firm's successful cooperation with Giulio Papi of Audemars Piguet Renaud Papi, the J12 Rétrograde Mystérieuse places technology in the service of aesthetics – and vice versa! To guarantee its absolute roundness, this new J12 features a winding crown appearing in relief on its dial. This unusual system implied associating the tourbillon movement with a minute hand capable not only of revolving around the dial but also around the crown. The only means of achieving this was a retrograde minute hand which, after 10 minutes, changes direction in order to reposition itself on the other side of the crown. During this retrograde interval, a magnified window between 5 and 6 o'clock takes over the role of indicating the passing minutes. This impressive technical feat is housed within a characteristic J12 design clothed in black high-tech ceramics.
