Great news ahead of Baselworld as we team up with Rebellion and present the new GMT and WorldTempus app.

It was a busy week last week but you may have noticed our coverage of Rebellion Timepieces and their new partnership with Zenvo Automotive. There will be more news from the brand this week as we explain how a fictional French company came to be one of the main sponsors on Rebellion Racing 2017 cars. In the meantime, you can find out more about Rebellion Timepieces on the brand’s dedicated page.

Among the other news announced during the Motor Show was a new partnership between Roger Dubuis and Italdesign, a new Zenith Chronomaster El Primero special edition to go with the new Range Rover Velar launched at the show (and excellent proof of how well a watch can turn out and tie in with a car when its design is left to the same designer responsible for the car), and TAG Heuer’s latest attempt to place its brand top of mind among the customers of tomorrow with a new partnership as the official timekeeper of the legendary car simulator Gran Turismo.

At first sight, it seemed strange that a couple of brands chose the opening days of the Geneva Motor Show for some highly significant launches. But for Fabergé, the significance of the 8th of March, the date that the Russian Revolution started a hundred years ago and which had a profound impact on the life of Peter Carl Fabergé, simply could not be overlooked. Nor can the significance of the spectacular new chronograph movement found in its new Visionnaire Chronograph. More surprising was the presentation of the Jacob & Co. Astronomia Solar – a smaller model in the now well-established Astronomia collection that features all the planets in the solar system.

Not your usual app

With ten days to go until Baselworld opens its doors we are delighted to introduce a new app that will allow you to follow all the news from WorldTempus and our sister magazine GMT during the busy Baselworld period and beyond. Far from being just another news aggregator, this new app is part of an entire ecosystem dedicated to fans of luxury. Whether you prefer bespoke motorcycles, luxury cars, fine wines, single malts, cigars or high-end watches, Volleto invites you to join a community where you can share your thoughts, experiences and your favourite products. Since you can only access this content by invitation, you can be sure that you are connected to like-minded people. Here is the private link for readers of WorldTempus to download the Volleto app (currently available on iOS only) and start enjoying regular news updates on the go. For more details, read Brice Lechevalier’s article here.

Another new movement

We start the week with news of another brand-new movement, this time from Lebeau-Courally, which is debuting a new, slim micro-rotor movement  just ahead of Baselworld. First presented in a simple three-hand watch which is also available with an ornate hand-engraved decoration by the skilled rifle engravers at Lebeau-Courally in Liège, Belgium, this new movement will also be available to third parties and fills an undersupplied watchmaking niche.

To help you brush up on your tourbillon knowledge before we welcome the 2017 crop of these fascinating whirlwind watches at Baselworld 2017, David Chokron looks at the different types of tourbillon on the market and how they are constructed. Michèle Brunner will conclude our coverage of the Geneva Motor Show with a totally subjective look at which watches might go with which cars.
