Editorial Superlatives from Baselworld

Roller displays, nautical complications and diver’s watches, plus the extremes from Baselworld all feature on WorldTempus this week.

The serious horological content at Baselworld this year came largely in the form of disproportionate watches with unusual shapes. I feature two of them, the Hysek Colossal and the Rebellion WEAP-ONE, in my article on watches with roller displays today. When you are dealing with these huge sizes and packing so many components into the movement, such types of display, although rare, are sometimes the most practical option.

Our Baselworld digest continues with a look at my favourite type of watch: the diver’s watch. I was pleased to note that a few brands presented diver’s models specifically for ladies at Baselworld, so my gent’s diver’s watch picks on Thursday will be accompanied by a separate article by Camille Gendre on lady diver’s watches. Staying with the watery theme, Michèle Brunner reviews the series of Officine Panerai watches presented this year for the America’s Cup, which starts in Bermuda next month.

We head towards the Easter long weekend with a light-hearted look at some horological superlatives by David Chokron. In addition to the sought-after title of the thinnest watch and the most complicated, we also bring you the most colourful, most flowery, most accurate and most musical timepieces seen at Baselworld.

Our next newsletter will be sent out on Tuesday 18th April to account for the long Easter weekend. Since I will be making my Easter weekend even longer, with a trip back to the UK to see my family, Brice Lechevalier has kindly offered to entertain you with his prose in my absence.
