Watchmakers and jewellers invade the red carpet - Cannes Film Festival 2016
1 minute read
The 69th Cannes Film Festival opens today, giving watchmakers and jewellers an opportunity to turn heads on the Promenade de la Croisette.

Cannes means films, movie stars and somptuous frocks. But that’s not all. Watchmakers and jewellers also make the most of the opportunity to show their wares to the best possible advantage on some of the world’s most desirable models, in a stunning location.

Geneva-based Chopard has been an official partner of the Festival since 1988, and has become a red carpet fixture. As creator of the Palme d’Or, jeweller to the stars, host of unforgettable parties and supporter of talented newcomers to the silver screen, Chopard has become an icon of the event.

De Grisogono, meanwhile, is taking over one of the finest terraces in Cannes, the Suite des Oliviers at the Hotel Martinez, and turning it into a rather special showroom. Then, on the 17th, the company will be throwing a party at the Cap-Eden-Roc Hotel, which a host of A-list celebrities are expected to attend.

Chanel will also be out in force. Two of its muses have already checked in: Vanessa Paradis, a jury member at the 69th Festival, and Kristen Stewart, who features in two of this year’s most hotly anticipated films, Café Society by Woody Allen and Personal Shopper by Olivier Assayas.

But they are not the only brands you’re likely to spot on the Croisette: Bulgari, Cartier, Dior with ambassador Marion Cotillard, Harry Winston, Jacob & Co., Jaeger-LeCoultre, Louis Vuitton and its muse Léa Seydoux, Montblanc and Van Cleef & Arpels will all be basking in the limelight. It’s a safe bet that once again, watchmakers and jewellers will be vying with each other to showcase their finest pieces.
