Anticipating Advent

Our way of making every day a gift for our readers.

It’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas, with the smell of roasting chestnuts on street corners as you wait for your tram, festive music piping through the supermarket as you grab that jumbo sack of clementines, inebriated revellers shout-singing outside your window as they tumble out of the restaurant below your apartment (although perhaps that’s not really a Christmas thing, merely Geneva’s so-called “rue de la soif” on a Thursday night).

If none of that puts you in the mood for giving, might we suggest the complementary mindset — that of receiving? In the spirit of the season, we at WorldTempus, together with our amazing partners, have set up a little Advent treat for you, our readers.

Starting yesterday, our digital Advent calendar offers up a new little treasure daily to be won by answering a question. We’ve even made the questions as soft as possible, that’s how generous we’re feeling. Check out our teaser video to get a sense of what you could win, and remember to visit our digital Advent calendar every day for a new surprise.

The end of every year is a chance to take stock, but this December in particular marks the end of a decade as well as the year. Keep an eye out for our month of retrospective articles that puts the unique WorldTempus perspective on the watches we’ve seen and loved during this time. We’ll be revisiting some of these items of wrist-joy on our social media accounts as well, so don’t forget to follow us on Instagram and Facebook to receive your regular dose of horological inspiration. We can’t promise that it’s the best thing in the long term for your bank account, but as we say in Singapore, 钱是赚来花的 — or in other words, the point of earning money is to spend it.

Human beings are spiritual creatures after all, and while Christmas has become more and more of a commercial orgy of consumption, there’s an upside to spending all your money on material stuff. In a weirdly liberating way, it reminds us that there is more to life than worldly pleasures. If you need suggestions on how to free yourself of all that constraining lucre and wish to advance your finer sensitivities by acquiring some objects of true beauty, heritage and creativity, we’re here for you. Together, we can make it happen.
