Thank you! - Editorial

A thank-you to our loyal readers and a look at what’s to come on WorldTempus.

It’s something I probably don’t say enough, so thank you! “Merci beaucoup” to the many loyal readers who have followed us in French for nearly 18 years, “thank you” to those who may have discovered us more recently and “gracias” to the many Spanish readers who have joined us since we first launched our new Spanish version a few months ago. You are part of a huge community that drives us on to better ourselves every day.

One of the big advantages of being an exclusively online publication compared with a print magazine is that we know exactly how many people visit our site and how long they stay to read our articles. Thanks to the almighty Google, in particular Google Analytics, we can see that our audience has grown considerably over the past couple of years, setting a new record over the summer with over one million page views in a single month. On average, we have around 200,000 individual visits per month and the average visit lasts over three minutes, which clearly shows that you are stopping to read our articles. So thanks again for your support.

Thank you!

But the popularity of our articles is just one element in a complex set of variables that have an impact on the traffic to WorldTempus. After all, having interesting content is little use if Google does not see it. Google regularly visits websites to keep its results up to date and pertinent, but it only allocates a specific time for each website. So in addition to being interesting and relevant, there is a whole host of technical requirements that our content needs to satisfy in order to make sure that Google makes the most of every visit to WorldTempus.

For the past few years WorldTempus has therefore invested heavily in resources, both human and technical, dedicated solely to SEO (search engine optimisation). Recently, we have shared the fruits of this work with the brands that support us. Now we would like to let you, our readers, know. Without going into all the details, the main result is that the number of visitors to WorldTempus arriving directly from search engines has increased exponentially over the past couple of years. We have gone to great lengths to make our brand pages as visible as possible in web searches and the results are clear to see. We are now doing the same with the major watch collections. All this is, of course, in addition to our extensive daily coverage of the watch industry. In the near future we will extend these efforts to include our database of over 18,000 watches, our comprehensive watchmaking encyclopaedia and our dictionary of watchmakers. We will also be leveraging our huge archive of 18 years of uninterrupted content (which averages several thousand articles per year!) to allow you to download tailored packages on specific brands and subjects. Sign up for our newsletter to be the first to know when these new functions are launched.

All this is to show that, in addition to our extensive editorial work, there are other people working behind the scenes to ensure maximum exposure for our news and all our other content. It is work that is difficult to quantify to you as the reader, but rest assured that it is bearing fruit and that the above-mentioned projects are all aimed to serve our loyal readers even better.

Once again, thank you!
