The WorldTempus readers’ poll: mid-term results - Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix
1 minute read
A whisker past the half-way stage in our reader’s poll of the watches selected for this year’s Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix, we take a look at the latest results.

Our poll offers readers of WorldTempus the opportunity to pick their winner in each of the 12 categories of the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG). It does not, of course, have any influence over the jury’s final decision, which will be revealed at the awards ceremony on 31st October this year. It will, however, ultimately offer an interesting comparison between the jury’s official selection and the personal choices of watch fans and watch buyers from around the world.

At the half-way stage, it is clear that the finest complications are the most popular… and not just among men. So far, the Tourbillon and Artistic Crafts categories have received the most votes, closely followed by the Ladies’ High-Mech category. It would be a huge leap to make deductions about the popularity of ladies’ watches based on this, but such results will certainly be of interest to the competing watch brands.

Chaumet is currently the favourite brand amongst our readers in both the Ladies’ High Mech and Artistic Crafts categories, with the Hortensia Tourbillon and “Attrape-Moi… Si tu m’aimes Montre Précieuse” models establishing a clear lead in these two categories.

The Midnight Diamond Drops watch by Harry Winston

The votes are spread evenly across the other categories but the results for individual models are more clear-cut in some than in others. A canny bit of social media lobbying by the Dutch Grönefeld brothers has put their Parallax model way ahead in the Tourbillon category, while Harry Winston and MB&F currently take the lion’s share of the votes in the women’s and men’s watch categories respectively.

De Bethune DB29 Maxichrono Tourbillon

Opinions are more divided, however, in the Chronograph and Petite Aiguille categories, where Montblanc is currently locked in a battle with De Bethune in the former and Chopard in the latter.

But all this could change over the next two weeks, since our poll remains open until 15th October and we have already seen over the past week that votes can swing very quickly.

If you have already voted, you can follow the up-to-the-minute statistics by visiting our section dedicated to the GPHG finalists. And if you haven’t, now is the time! We will publish the final results shortly after the poll closes.
