A new cinematic award is set to celebrate its premiere next year: the noted German watch manufactory Glashütte Original will support the Berlin International Film Festival 2017 with the inaugural presentation of the Glashütte Original Documentary Film Award.
The award for the best documentary film is endowed with 50,000 euros in prize money. Altogether around 18 documentaries will be nominated, selected from current submissions to the Berlinale 2017 sections Competition, Panorama, Forum, Generation, Berlinale Special, Perspektive Deutsches Kino and the special series Culinary Cinema. A three‐member jury will choose the winner, with the prize money to be split between the director and the producer of the award‐winning film. The Glashütte Original Documentary Film Award will be presented during the official awards ceremony at the Berlinale Palast.
