Sideralis also wins a Good Design Award.

Following on from the Black Gold Derrick and Memoris, now it’s the turn of Louis Moinet’s Sideralis to win a Good Design Award. For almost three-quarters of a century, the Good Design Awards have distinguished creative designs that enrich the contemporary world. In 2016, some 1,000 applications were submitted by companies and independent designers, from 46 different countries. In Fine Watchmaking, the Louis Moinet name was the only one to emerge as a winner, and Sideralis helps explain why.

Sideralis is structured around two oversized tourbillons - with cages measuring 14.9 mm, half as big again as the average - which are designed to be physically above the movement and even above the dial, and which rotate in opposite directions in order to provide the motive power required for the animation of three micro-paintings.

Third Good Design Award

"Three awards going to three timepieces from the same fully-independent watchmaking firm in the same year is absolutely unprecedented", commented Jean-Marie Schaller, CEO & Creative Director of Ateliers Louis Moinet. "It’s a huge honour to be receiving this accolade alongside the likes of Porsche, Ferrari, and Apple. The future is bright for creative, technical, whimsical watchmaking – it’s the very definition of art for art’s sake, and we’re proud of our contribution to that."tés de Porsche Design, Ferrari ou Apple. L’horlogerie créative, technique, onirique, a un avenir. C’est la définition même de l’art pour l’art. Nous sommes fiers d’en incarner notre part."
