More GPHG, a lunar launch and the home straight for our summer competitions

I’d like to take the opportunity to thank the people who contacted me directly following my article last week on the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève. As editor-in-chief, it’s always good to have feedback on our articles and stimulate debate on the issues of the moment in watchmaking. And constructive criticism is as welcome as thanks, since both allow us to improve our coverage and bring you, the reader, the content that you are looking for.

With the GPHG preselection still in our minds, Brice Lechevalier today shares his thoughts on the finalists, singling out a few models in each category. At this stage, every watch is a worthy finalist and the last thing we want to do is simply regurgitate the list on the official GPHG website. So if your favourite watch is missing, do not fear – we will most likely be focusing on it in some other way over the next couple of months. This will be the case, for example, for the two models from Louis Moinet that have been preselected. After TAG Heuer became the latest brand to reach for the stars, Louis Moinet brings outer space into its watches. The Sideralis Evo preselected for the GPHG has bits of Mars, the Moon and Mercury artistically worked into its subdial. Another astronomically-themed timepiece from the brand, the Memoris Red Eclipse, will be launched this week at the Neuchâtel Observatory on Thursday to coincide with the lunar eclipse. It’s the perfect occasion, therefore, to feature both watches on the site on Thursday. Camille Gendre will be heading for Neuchâtel hoping in search of extraterrestrial matter in the Sideralis Evo and, weather permitting, a glimpse of the lunar eclipse.

The last 10 days of our daily summer competitions start today and there are still some great prizes to win. Together with prizes offered by DeWitt, Hublot, TAG Heuer, Wolf, Les Eaux du Joailler, our star prize this week is a watchwinder by SwissKubik, which we will be offering on… Sorry, I like to keep up the suspense!
