With the deluge of news inundating our editorial office over the past few weeks, we have been asking ourselves this question a lot of late. This week, the annual Forum de la Haute Horlogerie tackles the same issue, but with a more sensible long-term view.

Amidst all the noise from this year’s Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix (GPHG), you may have missed the start of a new month and, therefore, a new competition on WorldTempus. Up for grabs in November is an Eterna Vaughan Big Date model worth 4,900 Swiss francs.

Sous le marteau du commissaire-priseur, la Supercomplication Graves de Patek Philipe pourrait battre un nouveau record aux enchères demain.

Our editor-in-chief is just back from a weekend in London attending SalonQP, which showcased the best of both Swiss and British watchmaking, as well as offering the first chance to see all the winners from the GPHG. You can read his report from the show online this week. WorldTempus is also a media partner of the “Passion for Watches” exhibition which will be held in Brussels from 14-16 November.

Among numerous Patek Philippe models going under the hammer at Sotheby’s tomorrow will be the famous and unique Henry Graves Supercomplication. The Sotheby’s sale, which pays tribute to the 175th anniversary of Patek Philippe, follows on from the Antiquorum sale last weekend, which took place over two days. Aurel Bacs will review the highlights of both auctions later this week on WorldTempus.

We will also be attending the annual Forum de la Haute Horlogerie this week. Under the heading “What’s next?”, leading figures from the industry will be looking at the future of the luxury industry as a whole. Some of the conference topics are particularly relevant to WorldTempus and its readers and we look forward to sharing the insights from this forum with you.

Having kicked off our series on Christmas gifts last week with an article on indecision, Marie de Pimodan-Bugnon follows on this week with a look at some ladies’ watches that borrow from the world of Haute Couture. Our Christmas gift guide will continue with some suggestions from the brand CEOs themselves and buying tips from some of the world’s leading watch retailers.
