Opera, ballet and the arts dominate the items you might have missed on Worldtempus last month

Vacheron Constantin sponsored New York City Ballet’s Spring Gala for the second year running and presented three unique ballet-inspired pieces on the occasion. The brand also held an exceptional evening at the Opéra Bastille in honour of Brigitte Lefèvre, Director of Ballet at the Paris National Opera for the past 20 years, who is preparing to hand over to choreographer Benjamin Millepied.

Breguet is also heavily involved in patronage of the arts and last month donated a clock to the Smith Center for the Performing Arts in Las Vegas and celebrated the second charity concert by the “Artists” foundation of Russia, which the brand has been a sponsor of since 2102. Marc A. Hayek, CEO of the brand, also splashed out 750,000 Swiss francs at the Christie’s spring sale in Geneva to acquire two exceptional vintage Breguet pocket watches. This sum pales into insignificance, however, against the $24 million that the most recent member in the Swatch Group fold, Harry Winston, paid out to acquire the rare 13.22-carat, flawless, fancy-vivid blue diamond, which will be called the ‘Winston Blue’.

Raymond Weil is also known for its commitment to the arts, in particular through its various associations with the world of music. Last month we presented two new models representing two extremes of the independent brand’s collection: The resolutely masculine and sporty Freelancer titanium chronograph and the ultra-feminine and elegant Jasmine Cherry Red.
