Magnetic fields can affect the operation of a mechanical watch if certain steel components become magnetised. In some cases the coils of the balance spring may become intertwined, causing the balance to stop oscillating.
Fortunately, the effects of magnetism are reversible. To demagnetise your watch, you can use the Lepsi demagnetiser.
