The Sixth World Brand Piazza - Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair

Prince Jewellery & Watch hosts the sixth World Brand Piazza at the Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair.

Hong Kong is a major market for watches and jewellery. In the watch segment, it is not just about Swiss-made imports but timepieces and related products that are made in Asia, which include machinery and equipment, watch-related accessories, and parts and components.

This is just one reason why the Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair, organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) together with the Hong Kong Watch Manufacturers and the Hong Kong Federation of Watch Trades and Industries, is an important annual exhibition.

Typically held in September, the Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair is touted as the world’s largest watch event.  In 2014, the Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair attracted more than 760 exhibitors from 19 countries and regions including 19,000 buyers from around the world.

The 34th Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair was recently concluded. Within the fair is a section known as the Salon de TE for international brands. The World Brand Piazza, which is part of the Salon de TE, is for the more exclusive international brands, mainly high-end Swiss brands, and it is hosted by Prince Jewellery and Watch Company.

The sixth World Brand Piazza was held from 8 to 12 September 2015 with 13 participating brands, namely: Blancpain, Bovet, Breguet, Bulgari, Chopard, Corum, DeWitt, Franck Muller, Glashütte Original, H. Moser & Cie, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Piaget and Zenith.

The two most eye-catching timepieces on display at the World Brand Piazza, according to Prince Jewellery & Watch, were Bovet’s Amadeo Fleurier Braveheart (priced at HK$4,410,000) and Piaget’s Altiplano 38mm 900P (priced at HK$1,310,000).

The first World Brand Piazza was held in 2010 and credit must go to Dr Jimmy Tang, Chairman and CEO of Prince Jewellery & Watch for crafting out a space and persuading and convincing these high-end prestigious watch brands to be a part of the Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair.

After all, such high-end brands would not have even considered being participants as they would have stuck out like a sore thumb had they not been brought together collectively by Prince Jewellery & Watch.

Bear in mind that the 2015 Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair is its 34th annual event while the World Brand Piazza just concluded its sixth show.

Dr Tang likens the World Brand Piazza to a beautiful pearl that attracts visitors who wish to view exquisite timepieces.

Dr Tang is the founder of Prince Jewellery & Watch which was established in 1984. His first retail shop was located at Hankow Centre, Tsimshatsui in Hong Kong. Prince Jewellery & Watch currently has 12 shops in Hong Kong and a presence in mainland China – in the cities of Shanghai and Guangzhou.

Exhibitions like the Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair are just one small reason why Hong Kong, with a local population of 7.25 million, is such an attractive city to visit. In 2014, the city welcomed 60.8 million visitors, of which 78% were from Mainland China, according to the Hong Kong Trade Development Council. Tourism expenditure amounted to HK$359 billion (around US$46 billion) in 2014.
