After a week in the desert looking at watches we return to the Swiss winter as the Geneva Motor Show starts with its fair share of watch brands present on the stands.

Our first visit to the Doha Jewellery and Watches Exhibition was full of cultural and horological revelations, swapping the early morning starts of Switzerland for the altogether different rhythm of a watch exhibition that opens its doors at midday but only starts to get really busy in the late evening. Attention turns this week to the world of the motor car, as the Geneva Motor Show gets under way. TAG Heuer celebrated the start of this automotive week with a spectacular display in the centre of Geneva yesterday, bringing a Formula E racing car to the streets of the city to drive across the landmark Mont-Blanc bridge. Various other brands will be showing off their associations with some of the world’s luxury car manufacturers in Geneva this week. With BaselWorld only 15 working days away teasers and new releases are coming thick and fast. So much so that we dedicated an article solely to the phenomenon of the teaser in the digital age. One of the teasers we looked at was for the new H3 by HYT, which we are delighted to reveal in full later today on the site.

The smartwatch issue was pushed centre stage last week as Frédérique Constant revealed not just a watch but an entire technological ecosystem designed to allow any brand to incorporate smart technology into a wristwatch. The market is very quickly being divided between leaders and followers and we will analyse the implications of the first “horological smartwatch” later this week.
