Porsche Motorsport LMP1 team defends WEC 2017 driver’s and manufacturer’s titles and wins a double podium.

After their recent outstanding victories at Le Mans 2017, Nürburgring, in Mexico and in the USA, the Porsche Motorsport LMP1 teams came to Bahrein willing to confirm their supremacy over the championship. Finishing second and third at the last round of the FIA World Endurance Championship allowed Porsche to successfully and officially confirm both drivers’ and manufacturers’ world championship titles. Drivers Earl Bamber, Timo Bernhard and Brendon Hartley, who were crowned world champions two weeks ago, finished second, the sister car, shared by Neel Jani, André Lotterer and Nick Tandy, taking the third position after six hours of racing.

With this race, one of the most successful chapters of Porsche’s motorsport history comes to an end as Porsche Motorsport leaves the FIA World Endurance Championship. From 2015 to date, the Porsche LMP Team took three consecutive Le Mans outright victories plus three successive manufacturers’ world championship titles while Porsche 919 Hybrid drivers won the drivers’ world championship title on three occasions. Since the 919’s debut in 2014, the tally from 34 races is 17 wins with seven of them being one-two victories. Furthermore 20 pole positions and 13 fastest race laps were achieved.

Chopard supported the Porsche Motorsport LMP 1 team from the 919’s debuts in 2014 as official timing partner. Perfectly in line with the performance targets of Porsche Motorsport, Chopard launched every year limited exclusive Superfast timepieces inspired by the Maison’s passion for racing and the Porsche 919 car in order to celebrate the partnership between two prestigious companies where craftsmanship and technology are at the heart of all developments.

Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, co-president of Chopard said;“ What a great season it was ! A victory at Le Mans along with several others drove Porsche Motorsport and its timing partner Chopard to reach the top of endurance ! It has been an unbelievable success story over the last years. The Maison Chopard and my family are very proud to have accompanied Porsche for a fourth year in the World Endurance Championship. The team performance led Porsche Motorsport to defend both world championship titles.”

This year, Chopard unveiled a new watch, the Superfast Power Control Porsche 919 HF Edition, a 100-piece limited serie. Exclusively available in Chopard boutiques, this new high-frequency timepiece by Chopard epitomises pure performance lightness, efficiency and technicality. The Superfast Power Control Porsche 919 HF Edition is a tribute from the Maison to its partner Porsche Motorsport’s success in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC). It has a lot in common with the car that has been monopolising the podium at the latest championship races: the Porsche 919 Hybrid.
