HYT Antoine Griezmann : “I contacted HYT through Twitter”
The French forward for Atlético Madrid reveals his own HYT H1 and some of the background to its genesis.
HYT welcomes contradictions – that much is obvious from its watches. Introducing a liquid into the heart of a watch movement runs completely counter to the most basic rules of watchmaking. And then there’s its ambassadors. Rather than running after them with juicy contracts, perhaps the more usual approach in the industry, HYT prefers to let its ambassadors find their own way. And finally, its launches always take place in unusual locations. This was the case on 8 September, when the Swiss watchmaker chose to unveil a limited edition inspired by a footballer for Madrid, in Paris!
But there is method to this madness. The story of HYT and Antoine Griezmann is an unusual one. “I bought the watch myself, after seeing one on the web. HYT knew about it, but I was the one who contacted them to ask about working together”, explains the Atlético Madrid forward. “I’ve gradually developed a serious interest in watches.”
From Twitter to the H1
Unlike your usual footballers’ timepieces, often derided for their excess of bling, Antoine Griezmann has chosen to remain faithful to his reputation of being down-to-earth, accessible and approachable. One day, he decided to contact HYT “through Twitter, to ask about becoming a brand ambassador. It was a dream come true for me”, the footballer continues.
HYT transformed the dream into reality, and took it a step further. Not only is Antoine Griezmann an ambassador, he also has his very own watch: a limited edition of just 20. His input can be found on an H1 that bears some resemblance to HYT’s previous version known as the “iceberg”, one of the watchmaker’s greatest triumphs.

Here too, Antoine Griezmann and HYT chose to swim against the tide, opting for a timepiece that, like the man himself, is elegant and minimalist. There are no diamonds, no major complications, just a sense of style defined more by its subtle touches than its exuberance. The watch is in blue and white, the footballer’s favourite colours. It features a central sapphire dial, with a seconds counter to the left and a power reserve the right, indicated for the first time by fan-like segments.
Antoine Griezmann was particularly drawn to the purity of the two-tone black DLC and blue PVD-treated titanium dial, whose minimalist effect is enhanced by a white Cordura strap with blue topstitching. By Griezmann’s request, the H1 Griezmann has no visible signature; just a logo decal on the sapphire caseback. Here, once again, less is more.

With this creation, HYT and Antoine Griezmann have scored two goals. It demonstrates the watchmaker’s ability to produce original, elegant and understated designs. And for the player, it gives him an opportunity to “own his style”, which is all about perseverance, attention to detail and application, and has little to do with showing off the latest fashion accessories. Griezmann and HYT together form a spontaneous, sincere duo, and this limited edition perfectly encapsulates their shared values.
