1969-2011 - 42 years on, the automatic chronograph has been reinvented.Although a concept watch, the calibre FJ-ACE-001 automatic chronograph by Frédéric Jouvenot explores a new technical vision while respecting the purest tradition of the art of Haute Horlogerie. Innovative features and design; these considerations have given rise to the first integrated chronograph in history with a winding mechanism that is completely visible from the face side.
After three years of research, this new exclusive system patented by Jouvenot Manufacture permits the architecture of chronographs to be preserved with a perfect view of the complex workings inside, through the back of the watch.

A short history of the chronograph:The mechanism of the chronograph has always incorporated a manual winding mechanism, whether it was offered as a wrist watch or a clock, it is an object of fascination for both the impassioned watchmaker and the amateur enthusiast alike, thanks to its functional yet aesthetic lines. Apart from the fascinating aspect of measuring time, we were always intrigued by the intricate architecture of precisely arranged mechanical and finely decorated components, revealed by a transparent back.In the 1970's a new generation of integrated chronographs in automated versions appeared more adapted to new production techniques as well as to the requirements of customers more interested in advanced features than in spending their time rewinding their chronographs. This fundamental change overturned the use of the mechanical balance that had existed in all handwound chronographs manufactured before this period.

In fact, the addition of an automatic winding structure accompanied by a spur gearing kinematically connected to the ratchet contributed to this imbalance. The fact that this system was “superimposed on” and added to the back parts of the chronograph disfigured the chronograph typical of the old master watchmakers and limits the technical possibilities such as the addition of a split-second lever visible from the back of the watch, for example.

Moreover, the oscillatory mass conceals at least part of the view of the mechanism of the watch and of the parts that have been painstakingly finished by hand.
