Manufacture - A. Lange & Söhne
Tradition and innovation… Rarely have such apparently opposing principles been so naturally united under one roof. For more than 25 years, Saxony-based A. Lange & Söhne has been combining expertise and excellence by solidifying the ties between past splendor and future promise.

While the rebirth of the Maison from Saxony dates back to 1990 with the launch of the iconic Lange 1 in 1994, one would need to travel a century and half back in time to grasp the roots of the philosophy and the dynamic behind the authentic Manufacture-based production of A. Lange & Söhne. In 1845, when he founded his production company, assisted by 15 apprentices, the watchmaker Ferdinand Adolphe Lange already proclaimed what would become a profession of faith for subsequent generations: “Given that highquality work always offers the most advantages for the buyer, we are keenly aware of being able to serve our clients best by delivering only exceptional watches.”

Even that which remains unseen

From past to present, exceptions have always been the rule within the Manufacture A. Lange & Söhne. A quest for perfection and an obsessive concern for details that are not the exclusive preserve of complicated models. All watches by A. Lange & Söhne, even those that are apparently simple – or should one say the most understated? – bear the hallmark of excellence. Bearing eloquent testimony to this approach, the elegant Saxonia (pictured opposite) conceals a wealth of know-how beneath its discreet outward appearance. At A. Lange & Söhne, that which remains unseen is the object of special attention. Witness the traditional hand engravings on the balance-clock, the circular graining and the circular satin brushing on certain components, the sunray effect as well as the beveled and polished edges that are all characteristic decorations adorning watches from A. Lange & Söhne.

Double assembly

From the first sketch through the final polishing operation, this expertise is nonetheless strongly anchored in the present and the future through the innovative capacity demonstrated by the German watchmaker. In 25 years, A. Lange & Söhne has developed some 54 calibers, composed of parts almost entirely produced in-house, notably including the balance-spring, the regulating heart of the watch. To guarantee a peerless degree of perfection and precision, A. Lange & Söhne raises the bar for mechanical reliability by means of a unique production protocol. Each movement, from the simplest to the most complex, is in fact assembled twice – a now essential stage that has become a tradition and a pledge for the future of the Manufacture A. Lange & Söhne.
