2013, the year of women? As the House of de GRISOGONO enters the third decade of its history, the watchmaking innovations presented this year celebrate femininity, a thread that can be found throughout Fawaz Gruosi’s creativity since 1993. “All our collections relate to this theme, glorifying sensuality, passion and beauty,” explains the founder.
The Sugar watch is a sparkling expression of a clever juxtaposition of the art of jewellery and watchmaking expertise. “I was enjoying a cup of coffee when I saw a woman dunk a sugar lump in her cup,” says Fawaz Gruosi. “The cup was inlaid with coloured stones and the idea of creating Sugar came to me.” This veritable delicacy is characterised by the fineness and originality of the setting. Always keen to infuse its jewellery creations with a sense of movement, the brand conveys the concept in its Sugar model with a cascade of mobile stones set on the side of the case. Colour is also an important element in this new collection with ten variations on the same theme: diamonds, emeralds, orange or blue sapphires are just some of the precious delights that interact with the galuchat strap and the rich, soft texture of the coloured mother-of-pearl dial.
Meanwhile, the Tondo by Night collection successfully launched in 2012 continues to turn heads with three luminous new hues. “My inspiration came from the colours in nature, the green of the trees and the fields, the red of the flowers and the blue of the sea” continues Fawaz Gruosi. “The Tondo by Night is a symbol of happiness and freedom, a watch bursting with personality which is represented in each of its colours. Each individual finds in it a reflection of their own identity.”
“Displaying an oscillating weight that is set with gems on the dial side, the line features the distinctive characteristic of being just as radiantly sparkling by day as by night. It is in fact adorned with “pearly photo-luminescent composite fibreglass” – a new, luminous material that absorbs light by day, the better to emit it at night.
This watch “created especially for a festive mood” comes in three new colours targeting “charismatic, passionate, ambitious, determined women who dare be different and are not afraid of expressing their own style”. Women who are likely to be enchanted by the other surprises de GRISOGONO has in store for them to mark its 20th anniversary. On the jewellery front, Melody of Colours “celebrates colour and love in the heart of a woman”, while Allegra “highlights her eternal youth and her mischievous nature”; and as far as watches are concerned, Fawaz Gruosi enthuses: “our Instrumentino collection celebrates elegance and grace in the life of a woman”.
