There is a place for everyone, every car and every watch when the automotive and horological worlds meet.

As the red carpet in Cannes turns almost threadbare after the continuous parade of celebrities draped with the world’s finest and most expensive watches and jewellery, our attention at WorldTempus turns to the world of the automobile.

“Jean-Claude Biver is a genius of the industry who rightly merits a biography”

From the refined elegance of the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este to the irreverent yet philanthropic extravaganza that is the Gumball 3000, luxury watch brands once again have all bases covered. For the former, the classic designs of sponsor A. Lange & Söhne are the perfect accompaniment, while for the latter, the independent manufacture Armin Strom is the ideal official timekeeper, especially when you see how well the brand’s new Skeleton Pure Team 78 model matches with the Techart Porsche that Serge Michel and Claude Greisler will be driving on this intercontinental rally.

Last weekend’s Monaco Grand Prix was also the occasion for many watch brands to soak up the unique atmosphere at one of the most popular races on the Formula 1 calendar. But the industry now needs to focus its attention on another type of Grand Prix: Entries are now open for the 2015 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève and the closing date for submissions is 22nd June.

WorldTempus has also been covering the second Grand Slam tennis tournament of the year, as several watch brands converged on Paris for the Roland Garros. After Olivier Müller’s short-but-sweet interview with TAG Heuer ambassador Maria Sharapova last week, Richard Mille has chosen today to unveil the new RM27-02 watch dedicated to Rafael Nadal.
