Birthdays, competitions, extreme tests and a top ten list from a new contributor that gives pause for thought.

Aside from the announcement of the watches pre-selected by the jury for this year’s Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix (don’t forget to pick your favourite in each category on the Worldtempus independent prediction page), it was an important week for the brands of the MELB Holding set up by Georges-Henri Meylan. After Hautlence celebrated its tenth anniversary at the start of the week, H. Moser & Cie. closed it with the presentation of its new Venturer Tourbillon Dual Time model, which represents a significant milestone for the company.

A new month also means a new competition on Worldtempus, this time with a chance to win a Baume & Mercier Promesse 10184 watch worth 3,990 Swiss francs.

This week, in addition to interviews with industry bosses, we publish Olivier Müller’s extreme test of the Ball Watch Engineer Hydrocarbon Spacemaster Orbital II, which he took on holiday with him as he kayaked around the icebergs of Greenland.

We also publish today an article by new contributor Quentin Mayerat, who looks at the top ten brands in the Swiss watch industry, a list that is bound to provoke a debate. To add your voice, share your views with the thousands of active members across our social media platforms using the icons at the top left of this article.

Last but not least, we are delighted to welcome Frédérique Constant on board as the latest partner brand of Worldtempus. This family-run manufacture that offers affordable luxury timepieces with its own in-house movements is going from strength to strength and just posted record results for the first half of 2014.
