WorldTempus will be travelling to the Salon de l’Homme & des Belles Montres in Paris later this week with a heavy heart.

The headlines throughout last week were dominated by events in a single city: Paris. In the social media age, everyone can be a reporter, everyone an editorialist. But words and knee-jerk reactions are scant comfort to those who lost loved ones in the attacks. Sadly, the watch industry was not spared in the devastation and Emmanuel Dietrich, founder of the Dietrich watch brand, unfortunately lost his sister Lucie during the attacks. Our thoughts are with him and our respect goes to his attitude at this difficult time. Within days of the attacks, the Dietrich watches Facebook page reminded us that “every passing moment should be a celebration of life, so live it to the fullest”.

“Jean-Claude Biver is a genius of the industry who rightly merits a biography”

Paul O'Neil

Current events notwithstanding, the Salon de l’Homme & des Belles Montres will be held as planned from Thursday this week in the heart of Paris at the Carrousel du Louvre. It may not be the most propitious of times for a watch exhibition in the French capital, but WorldTempus will be there to cover the exhibition, just as we have covered all the other major watch exhibitions this year.

More by chance than by design, we feature today an interview with the relatively new head of watchmaking at a renowned Parisian brand. Laurent Dordet took up his new position just over six months ago, but has some 20 years experience at Hermès. I spoke to him just hours before he took the stage at this year’s GPHG to pick up the Calendar Watch Prize for the Hermès Slim QP. Read the full interview on our homepage today.
