After studying at CESEM, the prestigious management school in Reims, France, and at Reutlingen University in Germany, Alain Zimmermann embarked upon a career that has been spent almost exclusively in the luxury sector. Between 1989 and 1995 he held a variety of sales and marketing positions with L’Oréal’s Prestige division in Düsseldorf. In 1995 he joined the Richemont group, starting out in Cartier’s marketing department in Munich, before moving to the international development department in Paris. Having been appointed development director for fragrances, he left Cartier and joined IWC, the Swiss watch brand bought by Richemont in 2000. With IWC he was Area Sales Manager for Switzerland, the Middle East and Asia (2002), then International Marketing Associate Director (2004) and finally, after a break to work for Bank Julius Baer, Chief Marketing Officer (May 2009). It was just four months later, in September 2009, that the Richemont group appointed Alain Zimmermann CEO of Baume & Mercier. His hobbies are photography, skiing, and treasure-hunting in antique shops.
