Interviews, watches from tennis and Baselworld extremes - Newsletter
1 minute read
Our first-person analysis of the trends at Baselworld continues with more interviews, while our in-house team also profiles the world’s tennis stars and their watches.

My 101st newsletter for WorldTempus introduces the first of my interviews with the leading watch industry CEOs conducted at Baselworld this year. What better way to start than a chat with the irrepressible industry veteran Walter von Känel, CEO of Longines, who covers the crisis in Hong Kong, the theme of ladies’ watches and the smart watch craze with aplomb. Later on this week we publish our interview with Carlos Rosillo of Bell & Ross, who explains that the brand’s AeroGT concept car could be yours, if you have €2 million to spare.

The TAG Heuer Autavia Cup has entered its second round and a clear preference among fans for which model should be re-issued at Baselworld 2017 is already discernible. Tomorrow you can read Camille Gendre’s interview with Jeff Stein from OnTheDash, the world authority on vintage Heuer chronographs who helped TAG Heuer with this original crowdsourcing project.

With the Monte Carlo Rolex Masters under way this week, we take a look at which watches the world’s top tennis players will be wearing on or off-court. From the high-tech Seiko Astron GPS Solar of world number one Novak Djokovic to the white ceramic Audemars Piguet Royal Oak of Switzerland’s Stanislas Wawrinka, the world’s tennis stars help to cover all tastes in watches. Discover a different tennis star and his watch every day this week on the site.

After his provocatively titled “Size matters” article generated considerable interest on the site, David Chokron is back this week with a look at the extremes from this year’s Baselworld. Beyond the usual most-complicated and most-certified pieces, he also digs deepeer to present the “most geographic”, the “most frosted” and the “most leather”. Find out more on Thursday.
