WorldTempus takes a closer look at five brands that are working to help children and women.

So many watch brands today understand the necessity of giving back. Whether the initiative is toward saving the planet, saving the animals or helping people in general, today’s society mandates that luxury brands take social responsibility. While the oceans, clean water, saving the animals and working toward raising awareness of global warming are all important causes, sometimes a more grass-roots approach goes a long way. Here we take a closer look at five brands that are working to help children and women when it comes to education, well-being and equality.

Breitling and Women

Recently, Breitling announced the formation of its newest all-female Spotlight Squad consisting of three very powerful women in their own walks of life: actress, director and UN Ambassador for Peace Charlize Theron, American Ballet Theater’s Misty Copeland and Chinese actress Yao Chen. For Breitling, the concept of this squad was to put the emphasis on women of power who are helping with gender equality and other important issues vital to today’s world. For instance, Chen is raising awareness of the plight of refugees worldwide, while Copeland, an ambassador to the Boys & Girls Club of America,  is devoted to diversity, inclusion and equality.

Charlize Theron, who founded the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project (CTAOP) more than a dozen years ago, is dedicated to educating African youth about ways to prevent HIV/Aids.  She also works tirelessly to raise awareness of LGBTQIA rights and, this year, during the pandemic, helped to found “Together for Her.”  This initiative is in response to the domestic violence against women and children that has become a clear issue during COVID-19 lockdowns around the world. By further putting these women and their causes in the spotlight via the new squad, Breitling underscores its commitment to today’s big social equality and education issues.

Bulgari and After-School Art Education

Luxury jewelry and watch brand  Bulgari has had a long-standing partnership with Save the Children and has launched several initiatives with the organization. Just last year, Bulgari launched the Arte di Bulgari After School Arts Program with Save the Children to bring the concept of self-expression through art to vulnerable youths in America. The on-going project began in several elementary schools in Texas, and continues its outreach to schools in California, as well. The program is designed to help children develop their own sense of self-confidence and self-awareness while learning through the arts, including dance, theater, sculpture, painting, photography and more. Bulgari has even unveiled a custom-designed pendant dedicated to Save the Children, with a portion of the proceeds going to the organization.
