Interview with Christian Horner - TAG Heuer

Aston Martin Red Bull Racing’s team principal shares his thoughts on the season ahead and talks about his first-ever TAG Heuer watch.

What can we expect from Aston Martin Red Bull Racing this season?
I think we have the basis for a good car and the drivers feel confident in it. Of course, we don’t know what our opponents are doing at the moment. Mercedes for sure are the favourites and look in good shape, but hopefully we can put them under pressure at some races this year. We have two of the best drivers in Formula 1 and a very strong team.

What do the partnerships with Aston Martin and TAG Heuer bring to the team off the circuit?
It’s the alignment of three great brands and bringing them together is a really positive thing. There are some exciting projects lined up for the future.

Have you been to the TAG Heuer factory?
Not yet, I was supposed to do it this week but with the tests in Barcelona and the Geneva Motor Show it was a bit difficult. I hope to visit the factory in the spring.

Tell us about your car collection...
I have a few oldtimers. I have an Aston Martin DB5 and an AC Cobra and I’m a big fan of classic cars. I don’t get as much chance to drive them as I would like and the weather in England it is not always ideal, but it’s nice to take them out for a spin at the weekend. We are racing for 21 weekends in the year so when I do get a free weekend I try to make the most of it.

Do you have a favourite TAG Heuer watch?
I have a Monza that was the first watch I ever bought. I had always been a fan of the brand and I was a fan of Ayrton Senna. I won a race in Formula 2 in Monaco, which was the only race that paid prize money for the team owners, so I had an envelope of cash that was going to be absorbed by the team if I didn’t spend it and I wanted something to commemorate that success, so at the duty-free shop on the way home I bought a TAG Heuer Monza. That is still one of my favourites.
