Former French international footballer David Trezeguet, 1998 World Cup winner and 2000 European champion, is a friend of the Hublot brand.

The partnership between Hublot and football has stood firm for the last ten years. Hublot was the first luxury brand to invest in the sport of football, and continues to lead the pack in this European Cup year. Hublot, which is official timekeeper for Euro 2016, launched the countdown at Baselworld in March by unveiling the limited edition Big Bang Unico Retrograde Chronograph UEFA Euro.

Swiss photographer Fred Merz immortalised ten football heroes for the campaign “What is your Euro Moment?” They include the legendary French striker David Trezeguet, a Hublot friend of the brand.

David Trezeguet was born on 15 October 1977 in Rouen. He began his professional footballing career in Argentina before returning to France, where he played for AS Monaco from 1995 to 2000. It was in the 1997–1998 season that Trezeguet exploded onto the international scene, scoring 18 championship goals and a further four in the Champions League. He was noticed by French national selector Aimé Jacquet, who brought him on board for the 1998 World Cup, which was won by host country France. In 71 appearances with the national team, “Trezegoal” scored 34 times. To date he is the third best goal scorer in France’s history, just behind his friend Thierry Henry, and Michel Platini. Two years after the World Cup, in the Euro 2000 finals against Italy, Trezeguet scored the “golden goal” that made him a national hero.

Later that year he joined Juventus, where he was to enjoy a very successful career. In 2002 he was voted Italy’s footballer of the year as well as best player in the Italian championships. When he left Juve in 2010 his contribution to the team was undeniable; with 171 goals he had beaten Michel Platini to become the best foreign goal-scorer in the team’s history. In 2015 David Trezeguet finally hung up his football boots after a 20-year goal-scoring career.
