Panerai exhibited two spin painting artworks by the British artist Damien Hirst.

Watches & Wonders Miami took place at the heart of the Miami Design District from 16th to 19th February. This first edition in the US region devoted to high-quality watchmaking was founded by Miami Design District Associates (MDDA) in partnership with the Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie (FHH).

On this occasion, Panerai exhibited two spin painting artworks by the British artist Damien Hirst, made using household gloss on canvas, over which hundreds of Panerai watch dials have been assembled in geometrical patterns. Beautiful Sunflower Panerai Painting (2011) was at the Telling Time Exhibition at the Moore Building, a special exhibition consisting of videos, creative installations and dramatic performance works by international contemporary artists. Watches & Wonders Miami also featured immersive virtual reality experiences, each designed to bring the world of fine watchmaking to a new dimension.

The second work, Beautiful Fractional Sunflower Panerai Painting (2011), was shown in Panerai’s flagship boutique in the Miami Design District.

Both works were the result of a collaboration between Officine Panerai and Damien Hirst who has incorporated Panerai watches into previous artworks, including ‘The Tranquility of Solitude (for George Dyer)’ (2006).

“I love Panerai,” Hirst has stated. “The watches are timeless and I made this spin painting using black Panerai watch faces without hands in the pattern of the seeds in the head of sunflower – I hope the painting makes you think, we are here for a good time, not a long time.”
