Armin Strom and the art of foiling - Editorial
The joy of foiling, the complex production of a tiny hairspring and yet more great prizes in our summer competitions.

As the GC32 Racing Tour heads to Palma de Mallorca this week for the Copa del Rey MAPFRE, we have another chance to marvel at the yachts that skim the surface of the water and reach improbable speeds. I was lucky enough to experience this first hand just before my holidays at the invitation of the Armin Strom Sailing Team, whose crew of experienced Olympians were keen to introduce me to the thrilling world of the foiling catamaran and give me some hands-on experience. Read all about it on Wednesday.

The Armin Strom Sailing Team actually broke the 40 knot barrier on Lake Garda earlier this year and have already won the Anonimo Speed Challenge once this season. Find out more about this race within a race, based on pure speed, in the article by our sailing specialist Quentin Mayerat, also on Wednesday.

The importance of the hairspring in a watch movement, as well as the difficulty in its production and the scarcity of suppliers, is often overlooked. With the help of three very informative videos from Bovet (watch the first here), you can see for yourself some of the stages in the complex production process for these tiny springs, which are thinner than a human hair.

We are pleased to announce a new offering for readers of WorldTempus and GMT magazine, who can now download a new digital copy of the latest issue of GMT magazine directly from our shop for less than the usual newsstand price. Subscriptions for the print issue are also available. Visit our shop for more information.

There are some great prizes in our summer competitions this week. After offering a visit to the Jaeger-LeCoultre factory last week, we offer a visit to Corum this week. Don’t miss out, because these are prizes that money cannot buy! We are also offering a two-night stay for two people in a five-star hotel in Geneva, kindly offered by Geneva Tourism. Find all the competitions here.

Although we start a new month this week, you don’t need to worry about missing out on our regular monthly competition to win a watch. For the summer, our competition to win an Anonimo Nautilo watch worth 1,800 Swiss francs runs until the end of August.
