Tour de force

A world first, a watch with a rotor counter coupled with a digital power reserve indicator!
Press release

After the automatic chronograph with rotor on the dial side and superb collection paying tribute to the different sun gods, including the Hélios watch which won a Superwatch Award at the GTE in 2011, Frédéric Jouvenot is back in the limelight with an original and patented complication that gives a new dimension to the power reserve indicator.

Tour de force is the name given to this new time piece that combines innovation and watchmaking tradition.

For the first time in the history of watchmaking, a time piece counts the revolutions of the rotor while indicating the power reserve in units!

Until now, the power reserve display often showed a small hand positioned on a circular arcor line ranging from + to - (like a petrol gauge) or graduated in hours or even days. For decades, this display was graphically presented in this way.

Wishing to push back the technical boundaries and inspire watch lovers, Frédéric Jouvenot has reviewed the traditional power reserve display concept with a modern and fun indicator for users while increasing precision of the display!

It works as follows: three disks revealing three large figures in an aperture are positioned in the lower part of the dial. When the watch is not wound up, the display indicates 0 0 0.

When the rotor has done one revolution, it indicates 0 0 1. This represents a unit of autonomy gained for the power reserve which can be translated into minutes. In the case in hand, one unit = 3 minutes. The user therefore rapidly sees the figures on the power reserve indicator move whenever the rotor moves while the watch is worn, as progression depends on the wearer's physical activity.

At 999 revolutions of the rotor, the indicator therefore indicates 9 9 9 units and the watch is fully wound up. When the user takes off the watch, the display runs backward: 9 9 8, 9 9 7, etc.

At 5 0 0 revolutions, the user knows that the power reserve is at half level. In the upper part, the hours and minutes are indicated in a small dial, making the power reserve display the major feature of this unique time piece.

State-of-the-art mechanism, innovative design. The horns are slightly curved and follow the natural shape of the wrist. They have been open-worked to lighten the effect and give a more contemporary feel to the watch. The automatic movement follows watchmaking tradition with meticulous finishing.

This new time piece will be available on the market in 2013.
