Galet Square for Only Watch

Galet Square for Only Watch - Laurent Ferrier
The Galet Square, launched at Baselworld this year, is a rare watch in itself. So to make it unique for the Only Watch auction this year in an extra-special challenge.

Little can be done, of course, to the signature Laurent Ferrier FBN Calibre 229.01 self-winding calibre with its double direct impulse escapement and micro rotor. This highly precise and finely decorated movement is already the epitome of excellence.

There are nevertheless some noticeable and not-so-noticeable changes compared with the models that were presented at Baselworld, with their supremely sober dials, which are adorned only with slender hands and hour markers, a small-seconds counter and the brand name. Even the “Swiss Made” is abbreviated simply to “Swiss”.

For only watch, the miniscule inscription at 6 o’clock on the dial changes to “Only Watch 2015” and is one of the not-so-noticeable changes. Much more singular are the lugs on the case, which bear no resemblance to those found on the model launched at Baselworld, since they are straight have gold ball-shaped inserts in what is otherwise an entirely stainless-steel construction.

The dial, inspired by the watch designs of the late 1930s, also sets this particular Galet Square model apart as a unique piece. The central section is vertically brushed, while the outer section is circular brushed, creating a variety of shades and textures set against a transferred hour ring and outer railway-style minute scale.
