From the chime of Audemars Piguet Supersonnerie to Raymond Weil’s association with The Beatles, even watchmaking can have its successful sounds.

We start the week with a look at the theory behind the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Concept Supersonnerie, presented at the SIHH earlier this year. On a special tour of the Audemars Piguet workshops in Le Brassus dedicated to restoration and a visit to the company’s heritage department, I learned a lot about the brand’s history in the production of minute repeaters and the innovation behind the Supersonnerie. Read the article on our homepage today to find out more and watch the video from our visit.

Raymond Weil has been celebrating an altogether different sound this year, with a partnership with The Beatles that recalls the sound of the Swinging Sixties. This week the brand has taken over the band’s home city of Liverpool as it celebrates Beatles Week. Nearby Manchester played host to the welcome home celebrations for Great Britain’s Olympic athletes, who broke a number of records in Rio de Janeiro. Set against the context of a sharp rebound in watch exports to the country last month (from -26% in June to +13% in July), this led me to ponder whether now might be the time for some enterprising watch brands to capitalize on the positive mood in the country.

As our analysis of the entrants in the individual categories of this year’s GPHG draws to a close this week, you can be among the first to discover which watches have made it through to the final round of the competition later this week on a dedicated page on WorldTempus. We will then start to take a closer look at some of the stand-out watches in these categories.

Our summer competitions continue and, on Wednesday, our monthly competition to win a futuristic-looking Arche music box from Reuge comes to an end. So make sure you enter the draw by midnight Swiss time on Wednesday.
