Review What you might have missed last month
The best overviews from Basel, anniversary celebrations and a new partner brand are some of the highlights from the past month
The export figures for the watchmaking industry published by the Federation of the Swiss Watchmaking Industry (FH) in March showed the first reversal in the downward trend in export growth since June last year. We will have to wait and see whether this is the effect of Baselworld or a sign of a more encouraging general trend.
Beyond the trends seen at Baselworld, of which there will still be many to discover on WorldTempus, our correspondents brought their familiar overview of some the more classical aspects of watchmaking. David Chokron examined some of the most classical timepieces available on the market, offered a selection of the best new ladies’ watches (Jaquet Droz receiving a distinction in both of these categories) and his traditional “bestiary” article (highlighting the work done by Chanel, which also celebrates the 15th anniversary of its J12 collection with a new flying tourbillon.
Corum celebrates its 60th anniversary this year – a major milestone to which the brand dedicated a celebratory video. There were also some noteworthy product anniversaries, with Hublot’s Big Bang and Carl F. Bucherer’s TravelTec collections both celebrating their tenth birthdays.
For its return to the world of watchmaking, Tiffany chose to partner with WorldTempus for the launch of its completely new watch collection at the start of April. You can find more information about the brand and its new timepieces in our dedicated Tiffany partner space.
In the world of sponsorship, watchmaking follows solar-powered planes with a solar-powered kayak as DeWitt teamed up with the Solar Planet Foundation and Raphaël Domjan for his journey through the North-West Passage. We look forward to following his adventure on WorldTempus.
