An exclusive limited series on behalf of three italian children's hospitals.

The Aeronautica Militare and Bvlgari, two winning "teams" and a symbol of Italian excellence in the world, join forces – on behalf of the Italian national colours and in a spirit of solidarity – for a truly new initiative: the launch of the Bvlgari Aluminum Tricolore special timepiece series. It represents a perfect combination of professionalism and values that takes on even deeper meaning amid the public health emergency currently endured by the country, like so many others.

Revenue from the sale of the first 50 exclusive and numbered timepieces in the series will be donated entirely by Bvlgari to the "Un dono dal cielo" (“A gift from heaven”), the fundraising project that the Aeronautica Militare launched on the occasion of the Jubilee announced to celebrate the Centenary of the proclamation of the Madonna of Loreto, Patroness of all Aeronauts (scheduled for the whole of 2020 and extended to the end of 2021). This funding will support three Italian children’s hospitals – Giannina Gaslini in Genoa, Bambino Gesù in Rome and Santobono Pausilipon in Naples – that all excel in their field. The second 1,000-piece non-numbered series will be available internationally from December 2020.

The launch of this limited series and the charitable support driving it owe nothing to chance: they coincide with a difficult period that has profoundly shaken countries around the world. Italy, of which Bvlgari and the Aeronautica Militare with its Frecce Tricolori aerobatics team are the ultimate emblem, was particularly hard hit. Right from the early stages of this emergency, both were engaged – albeit on different fronts – in lending their support to the nation.

Bvlgari has been actively involved in the fight against COVID-19 by donating hand sanitiser gel to hospitals across the country, in addition to showing support for the Spallanzani Hospital in Rome as well as for the University of Oxford through the gift of a state-of-the-art microscope. Both institutions are at the forefront of COVID-19 research.

The Aeronautica Militare continued to carry out its primary task of defending the national airspace, while at the same time – like the other Armed Forces – devoting its full resources and capabilities to providing concrete support for the complex rescue strategy put in place to deal with the COVID-19 emergency. The crews of the transport aircraft and the air rescue helicopters, together with teams of specialised doctors and nurses, were busy night and day. This initially entailed the repatriation of their compatriots from China and Japan, and subsequently numerous bio-containment missions involving patients affected by the virus to the best-equipped and receptive hospitals, as well as to transfer medical personnel and medical devices and equipment throughout the country as quickly as possible.

The Frecce Tricolori also played an important role at the height of the pandemic, flying over the whole country from North to South, as part of an ideal "embrace" that involved all the regional capitals and which culminated on June 2nd 2020, anniversary of the Republic, with the National three-coloured flag being flown across the sky above Rome. This initiative was strongly driven by the Minister of Defence, Lorenzo Guerini, who wanted it to be a demonstration of moral support, using the cherished national colours to renew a sense of belonging, unity and collective awareness within the whole community.

The philanthropic initiative promoted by the Aeronautica Militare on behalf of the three Italian children’s hospitals is a perfect fit with the numerous global social engagement projects undertaken by the Rome-based jeweller, and this unprecedented and exclusive combination offers an inspirational example of positive and winning synergies.

Eleven exclusive timepieces, accompanied by their individual certificate, will be available with an engraving corresponding to the identification of the same number of aircraft composing the team, from Pony 0 to Pony 10. The Commander of the Frecce Tricolori, Lieutenant Colonel Gaetano Farina, will symbolically receive the Pony 0 watch on behalf of the entire Aeronautica Militare. This timepiece – together with Pony 1, dedicated to the aircraft of the Chief Training Officer, and with Pony 10, dedicated to the solo pilot of the Frecce Tricolori – will be auctioned by Christie's Italy in December as a contribution to the solidarity initiative.

"Bvlgari has received a lot from Italy, and it's only fair that Bvlgari should give back to Italy," said Jean-Christophe Babin, CEO of the Bvlgari Group, stressing the importance of the role played by the Patrol, a genuine factor in national cohesion at a time when the latter has been rocked to the core by the COVID-19 crisis. “Along with all the other Air Force departments, the Frecce Tricolori’s way of flying, training and performing as a team – together with the three flag colours that they spread across the sky – represent a symbol much loved by the Italian people. It is with pleasure that the Frecce Tricolori participate in these admirable initiatives which, like those undertaken by Bvlgari, serve to convey a strong message of hope as well as providing practical help.”, said the Commander of the Frecce Tricolori.
