The Octo Finissimo Saga

The Octo Finissimo Saga - Bulgari
Appearing for the past two summers on the cover of GMT, as well as onstage at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) in 2017 (Men’s Watch Prize) and 2019 (Chronograph Watch Prize), the Octo Finissimo has been racking up distinctions and world records since 2014.

For the record, by enriching the Octo Finissimo collection with a GMT chronograph last year, Bulgari presented a fifth world’s-thinnest record (after those for the automatic and manual-winding tourbillon, minute repeater and automatic watch). Ultra-thinness can be viewed as a horological complication in itself. With this impressive demonstration of design and watchmaking expertise, Bulgari has on the one hand reinforced its status as a full-fledged watch brand that perfectly leverages the assets of its Manufacture ; while on the other hand repositioning ultra-thinness in the men’s performance watch segment.

Slimness can indeed be virile and ultra-thin watches are capable of displaying a strong personality, while the cutting-edge design of the Octo Finissimo propels it into the circle of noteworthy contemporary collector’s watches. Bulgari is notably distinguished by the fact that its technical expertise is consistently dedicated to aesthetics, as confirmed by this new release.

This undeniable masculine aura of seduction is further enhanced with the 2020 models unveiled in Dubai at the beginning of the year, enriching the now iconic collection with four new launches, including a minute repeater. Doubtless the iteration with the broadest appeal, the Octo Finissimo Automatic is now available in satin-polished steel paired with an integrated bracelet and framing a black-lacquered dial that captivates at first glance. The front view of this subtly nested, flowing design that is neither round nor square gives way on the back to a perfectly orchestrated mechanical spectacle, where the platinum micro-rotor sets the pace for the in-house movement measuring just 2.23 mm thick (the thinnest in the world !). The decoration of the caliber can be admired through the sapphire caseback, featuring smoothly merging volumes and shapes that endow this major example of contemporary watch design with a particularly pleasing visual asset.
