Two limited-edition writing instruments that are perfect for the watch fan.

Caran d’Ache was founded in 1915 and has been designing and producing writing instruments at its Geneva workshops ever since. Because the company shares a number of parallels with the presitigious watch brands in and around Geneva, not least its 100% Swiss Made production and the mastery of over 90 different crafts in its workshops, it has decided to celebrate them in the form of a limited-edition 1010 Timekeeper set of writing instruments featuring a fountain pen and roller pen.

The new writing instruments follow on from a first limited edition produced around 10 years ago that celebrated the sporty design of a chronograph. This new version, however, is bound to appeal to serious watch fans, who will revel in the intricate details of its design, which reveal themselves only gradually after several rounds of close inspection. The Roman numerals and the Breguet style blued-watch hands are the most apparent design cues, but the pens hold more hidden secrets like the clip, which recalls the Dauphine style of watch hand, a ruby set into the piston pump and a ring where the cap meets the body of the pen that is reminiscent of a watch bezel, with notches and 120 graduations to represent half seconds. Finishing like that found on luxury watches is also used, with engine turning, engraving, hand polishing, lacquering and PVD treatment all found on these limited editions. The fountain pen also comes with two caps, one of which recalls the links on a stainless-steel watch bracelet.

Those who appreciate fine craftsmanship will also acknowledge the attention lavished on the 18-carat gold nib, which is made and polished by hand. It offers an unparalleled softness and comfort in writing, with fine, medium and broad sizes available to suit different writing styles. This is the epitome of Caran d’Ache’s expertise in fine writing instruments and sets the 1010 Timekeeper apart as a luxury writing instrument.

The 1010 Timekeeper is available as a fountain pen or roller pen, both of which are limited editions of 500. The caps are engraved with a generic “1 in 500 pieces” engraving and the fountain pen is presented in a black lacquered case complete with a specially designed inkwell. Both writing instruments will be available on the Caran d’Ache eBoutique from the end of May 2018. The 1010 Timekeeper fountain pen is priced at 8,800 Swiss francs, while the roller is available for 7,800 Swiss francs.
