Just like men, all watches are not created equal. Thanks to the visionary thinking of some top watch brands unusual timepieces are bringing new subtleties to our lifestyles.
Thankfully, visionary thinkers exist in the world of wristwatches and they are bringing an all new breed of unusual timepieces to the forefront that are sure to match any sort of lifestyle and interest.

To these forward-thinking brands, the watch is an expression of emotion, of lifestyle, of status. Therefore, challenging themselves to go the extra steps in offering timepieces that wow the world is virtually a no-brainer. Hence, we have grand diversity.

HYT H1 Azo ProjectAmong the new ventures in the watchmaking world are exploration into multi-dimensional watches, watches that offer unusual games on them, watches that have a symbiotic relationship to their wearer, and watches that incorporate water in their displays.  Indeed, by pulling out all the stops when it comes to creativity in design, today’s brands are stopping people in their tracks.

HYT is all about Hydro-Mechanical Horology. The brand, which made its debut in 2012 with the HYT H1, uses liquid time display.  The watch features bellows (like car pistons) that are filled with a liquid. When the wearer wishes to indicate the time, the bellows are compressed and the fluid moves into veins that surround the dial. As the veins fill with fluid, they indicate the hours and minutes.  The mechanical manual wind watch is truly innovative, especially now that the brand has turned to new materials for its recently announced new version: the HYT H1 Azo, which features an ultra-light alloy for the case with fluorescent yellow green fluid.

Urwerk has brought us the world’s first mechanical watch with electronic circuit board that incorporates a sense of artificial intelligence. The new UR-EMC watch houses this unique movement that can be regulated by its owner to obtain the finest performance.  EMC is the first precision mechanical watch that enables timing to be both easily monitored and easily adjusted by its owner. The movement meets stringent quality control, with its chronometric performance tested in five positions during a 30-day cycle, and is housed in a 43mm case is crafted of titanium and steel.

Christophe Claret- the genius behind the 21 Black Jack watch and the Baccara watch – went a step further this year and developed the X-Trem-1 Pinball watch. Currently there is only one version of this watch – dedicated to the Only Watch Charity auction, but we hope to see more being produced in 2014. The watch is an unusual piece that incorporates a flying tourbillon mounted on ceramic bearings for added accuracy, and a dual retrograde time-telling system. This system incorporates spheres inside mesh tubes. The spheres are controlled by magnetic carriages so they appear to be floating – like pin balls. The mechanism of the watch is decorated with orange bumpers to replicate a vintage pinball machine. While one cannot play pin ball on this watch, by rapidly advancing the time, it sure looks like you can.
