Kristian Haagen: 2013 has been yet another great year for Swiss horology. How did 2013 look in terms of growth and what do you expect for the year to come?
Sassoun Sirmakes: Since the beginnings of the brand, we have been able to maintain good stability and we produce 2000 units per year. We are planning an additional production of 300 watches for the coming year
Swatch group is again tightening their policy of movement and parts supply to non-Swatch Group watch companies. Will Cvstos be affected by this?
Of course! But only for our 7750 chronograph movement. However, we have enough reserves to cope well for at least the next two years. Sellita will then take over supplying us with such movements.
Your biggest market has long been Japan. Has this changed?
It is not THE most important market for us, but one of the most important markets. On that side, we have noted a steady progression.
You received a lot of attention with your collaboration with Dani Pedrosa. Will you keep working together?
Yes, this collaboration has been very successful. The Challenge Dani Pedrosa , produced in an ultra-limited 2x20-piece editiongenerated strong demand ! We are looking forward to unveiling the new releases following in the wake of the Challenge Dani Pedrosa.
For 2014, Cvstos is introducing a very special watch that pays tribute to Gustave Eiffel, the man behind the famous Paris landmark, the Eiffel Tower. This new tonneau-shaped model is available in either steel or bronze PVD treated steel.
The rich Cross of Saint Andrew-inspired case decoration is of such complex construction that it takes 45 minutes to process. According to Cvstos, the CV350 jetliner Automatic movement “was designed in the same vein with motifs inspired by Gustave Eiffel's principles.” This calibre is visible through the skeletonized dial as well as from the back of the watch.
