Targeting Babylon 2015 - Cyrus
2 minutes read
In less than four years, Cyrus has found its cruising speed and its audience. The brand is more ambitious than ever and makes no secret of its plans for 2015.

The world of Ancient Persia has become the private hunting ground of Cyrus within just a few years. While this particular territory was admittedly not exactly crowded with watch companies jostling for position, Cyrus co-founder Laurent Lecamp found in it the fertile soil required to grow his brand.

Kambys and Klepcys in the spotlight

2014 will be a consolidation year for the brand. Remaining closely attentive to its lucky number, “3”, it will not be developing new collections but instead presenting eagerly awaited variations on its iconic models.

These will include new versions of the brand’s latest line, Kambys. In 2014, this fine Babylonian mechanical timepiece will be released in an 88-piece red gold and black DLC limited edition.

On a more atypical note, Kambys will also be issued in an eight-piece “Dragons” interpretation. In this watch, Cyrus has tried its hand at creating an animal (in this case the dragon) that will literally cross right through the model – with it front on the dial side and the rest of its body on the back. This ultra-limited series is set to cause a sensation, since it will the first to consider the watch case as a whole – meaning a single visual ensemble – and will thus represent a complete break with the tradition of a decorated dial and a case-back dedicated to highlighting the movement.

As far as Klepcys is concerned, a new titanium variation will be making its appearance, enhanced with a red sphere. Positioned at 5 o’clock on the dial of this imposing 48 mm model, this feature has become a Cyrus signature that embodies the partnership the brand has developed with Chronode – one of the most famous movement makers on the current watchmaking scene. It also enables Cyrus to offer cosmic variations, since the red sphere will become the planet Mars on the new version.

Peering far into the future
Cyrus is even prepared to speak of its more long-term ambitions, since the brand plans to offer its very first alarm calibre in 2015! Contradicting its neo-futuristic image, Cyrus intends to revive this complication that is a favourite among certain well-established brands such as Vulcain (Cricket) or Corum (Chargé d’Affaires). This will be the first alarm watch by Cyrus; the first alarm calibre ever developed by its partner Chronode; but also and above all a real breath of fresh air for this underestimated horological complication that has not been enriched with any noteworthy developments for some time now.

On the sponsoring side, Cyrus will also be confirming its commitment to the field of… football! Here too, the brand is bucking the trend, since this sport had thus far been the exclusive preserve of the big watch groups.

Cyrus had already signed a partnership with talented Real Madrid player Mesut Özyl and this should be continued. Even more importantly, however, we can expect an announcement within the next few weeks of a partnership with an entire team. For Cyrus, this will be its first involvement as ‘official timekeeper’, a title that will be appreciated by all fans of the brand and of football – two audiences that Cyrus wishes to unite under its Babylonian banner!
