Women’s collection - Czapek Genève
Geneva-based Czapek & Cie, which was relaunched at the end of 2015, introduces its first women’s collection. There are plenty of ladies who can’t wait to get their hands on one.

Czapek, relaunched in Geneva in November 2015, was reborn from its ashes through the latter-day miracle of crowdfunding. By approaching watch lovers and enthusiasts of the brand directly, the founders were able to raise more than a million Swiss francs – quite an achievement, and a good indicator of the level of appetite for Czapek watches.

The Quai des Bergues collection has been a runaway success with both sexes, but its generous 42.5 mm dimensions proved an obstacle to greater uptake by women. Rather than simply resizing the watch, a decision was made to reassess its entire aesthetic, to give it a stronger feminine identity.

The Quai des Bergues Lady collection owes its genesis to a “Creative Lab” that took place on 26 May at Czapek’s annual shareholder meeting. Everyone present was invited to give their opinion on a number of different options and designs proposed for the first watch in the ladies’ collection, and the ideas were then taken away for consideration.

The workshop clearly caused considerable anticipation among the men and women present. But anyone hoping to take delivery of their own Quai des Bergues Lady will have to exercise some patience, given that the launch is not scheduled until December.

Quai des Bergues Lady

Among the variants proposed by Czapek, the most popular was the rose gold model set with diamonds, closely followed by a white gold variant, without diamonds. The purity of the fleur de lys hands in black gold set against a mother-of-pearl dial, framed by a white gold case, conveys the ultimate in classic sophistication.

Watches in the women’s collection are powered by the same movement that drives the rest of the Quai des Bergues collection – the hand-wound calibre SXH1, which offers a seven-day power reserve. The slim Fleur de Lys hands in 18 karat gold, which made their debut in the men’s model, are now available in black and blue thanks to an innovative rhodium treatment.

The seconds counter and power reserve register eschew hands in favour of rotating discs, which makes for a cleaner and more harmonious design. The ladies’ variations all come in a 38 mm case, giving a contemporary spin on this haute horlogerie timepiece for connoisseurs of fine watchmaking.

The collection is due to be unveiled in December, and will be available from Christmas. Just 25 lucky ladies will have a chance of finding one in their Christmas stocking, although they can increase the odds by placing their order now. Prices range from CHF 19,000 to 32,000, plus VAT.
