The new De Bethune Dream Watch 6.

Although we know of De Bethune primarily as the maker of avant-garde timepieces along the lines of the DB28T, with their hallmark skeleton lugs, delta-shaped bridges and unconventional balance assemblies, there are more things in their oeuvre than mere wristwatches.

It all started in 2003 with a marine chronometer-inspired creation, followed by the Stellar Clock, then a specially-designed clock built to withstand the vibrations and movements of a helicopter, and not forgetting the DB-1318 for Only Watch in 2017. And for something completely different, in 2011, De Bethune created the Dream Watch IV, an iPhone case with an embedded timepiece that extrapolated the company’s signature aesthetic to a distinctly different sort of object.

Launched this evening at Dubai Watch Week is the Dream Watch 6, a clock created in collaboration with designed Jörg Hysek featuring the De Bethune ultra-accurate moonphase display (which accumulates one day of error only after 1,225 years). Hours and minutes are told by spheres that rotate around the blued titanium dial inlaid with gold stars to recall the night sky, with the movement suspended beneath the dial to allow an unparalleled view into the mechanisms driving this clock.
