Eberhard & Co. 2014 : looking ahead to a promising year
Eberhard will be pursuing in 2014 the development of its winning threesome: the 8 Jours, Chrono 4 and Tazio Nuvolari models. Re-editions will however be making way for new creations.
Despite its respectable age (1887), Eberhard is a brand with its finger firmly on the trend pulse and notably quick off the mark. As 2013 ticks away, it is taking stock of the year’s events. The 8 Jours is a proving a major and consistent success for the brand and its various interpretations, notably the new 41 mm version, have gained a broad audience. The same goes for the Chrono 4, the iconic Eberhard model that has been interpreted in Géant and Temerario (tonneau-shaped) versions – a daring wager that has also paid off.
These lines will once again be the backbone of the 2014 collections. Solid gold versions will be maintained. Meanwhile, another key Eberhard trend to look out for is the creation of new models. While that might seem obvious, the brand had thus far significantly drawn upon its rich heritage that has now found its place on a number of wrists.
Next year, Eberhard wants to reverse that tendency by introducing more creations than re-editions. Does that mean we will be seeing a whole spate of new releases? Far from it! Eberhard confirms its determination to avoid excess and to offers its customers ranges that are both clear and consistent. The Chrono Extra-fort will for example remain an Eberhard must-have in 2014.
The use of new materials will also continue next year. Eberhard made a first foray into this domain in 2013 with a 500-piece limited edition Chrono 4 Géant Full Injection model. This highly exclusive DLC and steel model with its generous 46 mm diameter had been extremely successful, providing that a match between an iconic model and a modern finish could work. Convinced yet cautious, Eberhard will probably be repeating the experience in 2014. The brand is nonetheless focused on preserving the Eberhard style built on a 125-year legacy and representing the only limit it sets on such stylistic exercises.
Prospects for the ladies’ collection and a flagship boutique
Eberhard’s Gilda collection, the only one thus far designed for women, may probably welcome some new models. Gilda has so far been a somewhat isolated exception within the extremely masculine Eberhard world. Closely attuned to its customers’ expectations, the brand should quite logically be developing this collection in order to give it the future it deserves.
The brand’s customers will always be able to find their favourite timepieces at one of the many Eberhard points of sale – and possibly some time soon in an own-name boutique? For the time being, the latter is not on the brand’s 2014 agenda. For the time being…
