The watches that really rang your bell this year

I don’t know if you guys have noticed, but we’re 16 days away from Christmas. If you’re not part of the tribe that celebrates the birth of Jesus in its religious context, you can still join in the other parts of it, the office parties, the non-stop feasting (and drinking), the romping around winter festival markets — the fun parts, in other words.

One of the fun parts is, of course, buying stuff. Or looking online at stuff you want to buy and eating a bunch of festive baked goods as a displacement activity since you can’t afford all the stuff you actually want (I speak from experience here). I wasn’t kidding last week when I said we can help you get into the mood to engage in some retail therapy.

Yesterday we revealed the top 5 most viewed watches on WorldTempus in 2019, and I don’t know about you, but what it tells me is that our readers (you guys) have some exceptional taste. These watches range from sporty to classic, from affordable to wallet-burning, from the usual suspects to highly niche selections. As a whole, they form a pretty comprehensive collection for anyone who wants to call himself or herself a connoisseur of fine watchmaking. It’s one hell of a Santa Claus wish-list, but we’re not going to leave you hanging there. Later this week, we’ll have a boutique guide coming up, compiled by our very own man at the top, Brice Lechevalier, so you’ll know exactly where to go (within Switzerland anyway) to get the watch you’ve been dreaming of.

Speaking of dream presents, just last Friday we welcomed my dear friends at Urwerk as our newest brand partner at WorldTempus. The independent watchmakers were the ones to really kick my passion for watches into high gear, so this is a special moment for me, getting to bring their exceptionally cool creations to you, our audience, at a whole new level. Classic mechanical watchmaking will always be at the heart of everything we love, but there’s always time to make a little expedition out to the science-fiction cowboy frontier of modern independent horology. Stay tuned for more exciting news on this front in 2020. Maybe next year we’ll see one of these guys popping up on the year-end Christmas wish-list.
