Watches for the summer - Glashütte Original
Whether sky blue or navy, mother-of-pearl or white sand, Glashütte Original watches offer a taste of summer for both men and women, to accompany them from dawn to dusk.

Shimmering sky blue

Since its launch in 2013 the Pavonina collection by Glashütte Original has expanded to include a wide selection of models ranging from discreet elegance to sumptuous luxury. These watches, in steel, red gold or bicolour, give a contemporary twist to the cushion shape so redolent of the 1920s, improved by innovative integrated lugs that make the case sit more comfortably on the wrist. For the summer, a sky-blue watch in steel with a 31 x 31 mm case, water resistant to 50 m, is just the ticket. The galvanised silver dial of the blue model is made entirely in-house – like all Glashütte Original dials – and is decorated with a sophisticated guilloché pattern that produces shimmering plays of light, like the feathers of a peacock (Pavonina comes from the Latin pavoninus, meaning peacock). The play of light continues with the eight indices made of brilliant-cut diamonds, interspersed with four Arabic numerals in galvanised silver, and spills over onto the lugs which sparkle with 42 small diamonds. The carefully finished hour and minute hands with the characteristic Glashütte grooves are driven by the in-house 03-02 quartz movement. The watch has a 48-hour power reserve and boasts magnetic protection three times greater than standard. Finally, the sky-blue calf leather strap completes the summery mood of this model.

White sand

With its graceful Louisiana alligator leather strap and mother-of-pearl dial, the new Lady Serenade 2016 calls to mind the white sands of exotic beaches, and endless days of relaxation under luxuriant tropical vegetation. Its 36 mm stainless steel case is topped with a 4N rose gold bezel with optional diamond setting, completed by a rose gold crown. The white mother-of-pearl dial contrasts elegantly with the gold applied Roman numerals and indices. The sapphire crystal caseback with anti-reflective treatment reveals the calibre 39-22, a self-winding movement that powers the hour, minute and second hands, with stop seconds function and a date in a small aperture at 6 o’clock. Glashütte Original’s meticulous attention to finishing is evident from the polished screws, skeletonised rotor and decorated bridge of the movement.

Shipshape in navy blue

Glashütte Original loves blue. For more than 20 years Glashütte Original has regularly launched men’s watches that feature dials of the deepest blue, such as the Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date, the Senator Chronometer (with its splendid finely-grained powder-blue dial), the Senator Perpetual Calendar and the Senator Panorama Date Moon Phase. The latter two, which were unveiled at the same time late last year, are steel and blue variants of classic models from the Senator collection, fitted with a dark blue alligator strap.

Sunset

The dial of the Sixties Red looks like it contains a miniature sunset. But make no mistake, the flaming sunburst that veers from bright yellow to deep red is perfectly mastered and painstakingly implemented according to a traditional technique. The colour gradation is obtained by a combination of galvanisation and the application of successive layers of lacquer. This watch, from the Iconic Sixties collection, features sixties-style Arabic numerals, a domed dial and gently curved hands. The round 39 mm case encloses the calibre 39-52. Its 40-hour power reserve gives the wearer ample time to admire the finest sunsets of the summer.
