Pioneer MEGA Cool, ain’t it? - H. Moser & Cie.
Reflecting the provocative touch embedded in the DNA of the quirky Haute Horlogerie brand, the name of its new springtime model offers a distinct contrast with the serious nature of its watchmaking craftsmanship – but definitely not with the joie de vivre it inspires and that we all need

Why be boring when you can be cheerful and joyful? Who doesn’t dream of a paradisiacal lagoon in which to escape the daily lockdown that is weighing us all down? That’s the most obvious lesson from the first glance at the latest addition to the Pioneer collection, graced with the famous turquoise-colored Blue Lagoon dial developed by H. Moser & Cie. As talented as it is modest, the Schaffhausen-based Manufacture doesn’t clutter the dial with any ostentatious logo that would disturb its purity, since it is made of transparent lacquer. Connoisseurs simply know! The hands are as sharply cut as ever, in this instance evoking a Jedi lightsaber. Three-dimensional and composed of two distinct parts, they feature inserts made of Globolight®, a high-tech ceramic-based material incorporating Super-LumiNova®. Whether by day or night, the Pioneer MEGA Cool can be spotted light years away and offers a shining example of legibility.

This rejuvenation of tradition does not detract from the technicality of the mechanical content, which is revealed in a less unconventional way through the back of the steel case. Powered by a large engraved rotor, the in-house caliber is distinguished by the iconic Moser double stripes on the bridges and mainplate. It also houses a regulating organ made by Precision Engineering AG, a company owned by H. Moser & Cie. Returning to the playful and practical character of this new model presented at Watches & Wonders 2021, it is also equipped with easily interchangeable wristbands in steel, rubber, leather and kevlar, enabling it to be used in any situation (it is water-resistant to 120m). What can one wish this cover model of the GMT spring issue, if not to follow in the footsteps of the Streamliner that was featured on the front page pf the magazine this time last year – and went on to win the Chronograph prize at the 2020 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève?!
