Dial's paintings

Hermès innovates in the field of watchmaking with a camel bone dial staging Persian miniature paintings. This age-old oriental technique is all about subtle alchemy, starting with the one between the bone powder and a mysterious resin forming the dial base. A porous surface was used to absorb the colours, entirely made from natural pigments: saffron, walnut, henna, pomegranate, lapis lazuli, turquoise, gold leaf and silver leaf. Philippe Ledoux drew his inspiration from a silk scarf to paint the Promenade de Longchamp. Designs were mixed in place with Gum Arabic (acacia gum) and a discreet layer of vanish was applied to protect these Persian miniatures.
