A look at three fantastic high-jeweled timepieces.

High-jewelry watches are not for everyone, and certainly they’re not for everyone’s wallet, either. However, some of the best watch brands in the world have been pushing the envelope over the years when it comes to  elaborately cut stones and over-the-top gemstone and diamond settings. This year, Despite COVID-19, there were still some splendid surprises in the world of haute Joaillerie watches as brands honed their skills and opted to add sparkle to  the wrist.  Here, we take a look at three fantastic high-jeweled timepieces.

Piaget Altiplano Tourbillon Infinite Blue
Always a master at high jewelry  and jeweled watches, Piaget never disappoints. This year, the brand unveiled its Altiplano Tourbillon Infinite Blue series of three beautiful watches, each created in a limited number. This 41mm version boasts ribbons of diamonds across the rich blue dial. Crafted in 18-karat white gold, the bezel and lugs are set with 72 brilliant-cut stones, while the dial showcases 179 diamonds – for a total weight of more than three carats. Because Piaget is also a master at mechanics, it equips the watch with a tourbillon escapement. The ultra-thin hand-wound 670P in-house-made movement consists of 157 parts and offers off-centered hours and minutes at 8:00 and flying tourbillon at 2:00. The seconds are indicated by the tourbillon carriage. A transparent sapphire case back allows for viewing of the finely finished movement. Just 18 pieces are being made.

Roger Dubuis Excalibur Superbia
Known for its daring side, Roger Dubuis pulled out all the stops with this Excalibur Superbia watch that boasts a new 319-part mechanical movement with a double flying tourbillon and an exquisitely unique diamond and sapphire setting. In fact, more than 600 gemstones adorn this one-of-a-kind timepiece, and those stones are a gem-cutter’s nightmare (and the gem setter’s nightmare, too). The stones are all cut in a tetrahedron shape, which is essentially a three-dimensional pyramid. Not only are the 11-carats of stones all cut in this triangular 3D motif, but also, they are all in different sizes and the master setter must piece the stones together like a luxurious jigsaw puzzle so that there is no recurring pattern. It represents the first time this setting has been executed on a curved surface such as the flange, and case. More than 1,000 hours of craftsmanship went into the cutting and setting of the stones. No wonder the retail price of this watch is at the nearly $860,000 mark.

Harry Winston Premier Majestic Art Deco
Leave it to the King of Diamonds to create one of the most sophisticated diamond-set watches on the market in the spirit of the Art Deco era. The new Premier pieces for 2020 are all equally as dazzling, from the  Kaleidoscope to this Majestic Art Deco Automatic 36mm. Displaying the hours and minutes, the watch dial is a marquetry of mother of pearl and black jade. It is set with white and gray mother-of-pearl cabochons and 88 brilliant cut diamonds, with a single emerald-cut black jade stone taking center stage. Even the buckle is set with brilliant-cut diamonds. In total 162 diamonds weighing nearly 3 carats adorn this 36mm white gold watch.
