Luxury watch brands such as Corum, Harry Winston and Patek Philippe are bringing the fascination of the moon and the stars back to Earth for women who want romance on the wrist.

The concept of creating mechanical watches specifically designed for women is on the rise. Today, luxury watch brands are building timepieces specifically for women who dress for success and to impress. Among the more coveted mechanical watch type for women:  Moonphase watches.

Ever a symbol of romance and eternity, the moon – and the stars – have mystified and enraptured all -- bringing endless pleasure to our lives. This may well be why so many watch brands are putting time and research into the development of specialty watches for women that depict the phases of the moon in ever more creative renderings.

Corum, for instance, offers its Admiral’s Cup Legend 38 Mystery Moon timepiece with an endlessly rotating genuine mother-of-pearl dial. This watch is a dance of poetry and mystery, wherein the moonphase display, and a sunburst date indication opposite it, play a fascinating game of chase without ever catching up with each other.  The exclusive Corum-patented complication is a technological advancement that was several years in the development stages. Powering the watch and driving the hour, minute, jumping date and jumping moonphase functions is the self-winding Caliber CO384. The mother-of-pearl moonphase disk appears in a satin-brushed metallic subdial that is studded with stars – six of which are gem-set.

In addition to advanced technological indications for women’s moonphase watches, some brands look to displaying the moonphase in simply beautiful new designs. For alluring appeal, for instance, Harry Winston has unveiled the automatic Midnight Moonphase watch that features a meticulously engraved tree on the dial, with a crescent-shaped aperture stretching behind it from 9 o’clock to 12 o’clock and from which the moon and stars peek out. The delicate décor simulates a rendezvous in time – and offers a woman an ultra feminine statement.

Similarly, Patek Philippe steps up the decorative motif of its complex ladies white gold 4968G-010 mechanically wound moonphase watch.  The timepiece features a white mother-of-pearl dial with an engraved spiral motif and a case and bezel set with 273 graduated-size diamonds set in a spiral and weighing 2.12 carats.  The watch houses the 157-part Caliber 215PS LU with moonphase indication and small seconds subdial.
